Trickster

The Amusement chapter has the presents of a trickster act but as far as Victor and sadie putting Diry Joe on the rollercroaster, i think they were doing it to get a laugh not to embarass him and when they say how all the white people were staring because they were Indians. I dont think that was the case if i seen someone passed out on a rollercoaster i would be looking and laughing no matter who and what race they were.

The only traffic signal on the reservation

“Go ahead,” Adrian said. “Pull the trigger.” I helda pistol to my temple. I was sober but wished I was drunk enough to pull the trigger. “Go for it,” Adrian said. “You Chickenshit,”. Even though it was a BB gun what’s going on in their minds. This is how the passage begins with Adrian and Victor sitting around bullshiting and drinking diet pops. Then they see a young Indian boy by the name of Julius Windmaker. “He looks good,” Adrian said. “Yeah, he must not be drinking.” “Yet” “Yeah, yet” Victor talks about how Julius is the best basketball player on the reservation and how he was going to be the one to make but when Julius fails no one is surprised, because like the other who came before Julius that had talent didnt make it. Toward the end of the passage Adrian says “Shit, that damn traffic signal is still broken.” Victor responds by says whats the point of fixing it in a place where the stop signs are suggestions? and the only thing i can relate the title and the passage together is, why fix the stop light when nobody stops at stop signs, so when someone with talent doesnt make it off the reservation dont be surprised it’s expected.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest

This book takes place in a mental hospital and has some “interesting characters” so to speak theirs Chief Bromden who narrators the story, and he has a fear of what he calls the combine. Then theirs McMurphy who was transfer from a work farm and when he comes into the ward he has a swagger to him, a bad ass, smokes, chases women, and likes gambling a real “tough guy”. But if you seen the movie McMurphy’s played by Jack Nicholson from reading the book i pictured MCMurphy as a big tough guy. And Nurse Ratched a former army nurse who runs the ward, she seems to run the ward with and iron fist and she seems to have psychological power over all the patients but McMurphy. Billy Bibbit he’s in his thirty’s but he seems much younger and his mother runs his life and to make matters worst Nurse Ratched is friends with mother. Doctor Spivey who was chose by Nurse Ratched to run the ward. Theres a guy named Charles Cheswick who drowns committes suicide. Like i said this book has some interesting characters.

The House Of The Spirits

So far The house of the spirits is interesting. Like Ceremony I had to go back and read Chapter one. Sometimes I got lost and confused on who was telling the story. I dont like Esteban, granted he improved the standard of living for the peasants that worked on the plantation, that doesnt give him the right to rape the women.

Asteroids

The asteroid game was ok it reminded me of the actually asteroid game instead of having to dodge space asteroid and other things you had to dodge words. If i had my choice of which one to play it would be neither I’d rather play Madden 07 for the X-box or PS2. But the whole concept of the asteroid game with words was a cool thing to do.

I liked the different versions of the corridos, all of the stories protrayed Gregorio Cortez as a tough guy with everyone afraid of him, taking on 200 rangers. The stories of Cortez remindes me of john wayne he always plalyed a tough guy that people feared.

I dont have much to say about Ceremony, at first it was hard to follow. I found myself having to go back and reading things over at first the story kept jumping around I couldnt tell if things with Tayo were going on now, past, or just in his head. But in all I just didnt find Ceremony interesting.

Fairy Tales

The fairy tales stories we had to read for class were a bit interesting. Like in the little red riding hood stories it seems to me that it was a fairy tale only told to little girls at the time. Because in the end of every one of the stories it seems to be giving little girls a warning never talk to strangers if they do they’ll end up being “dinner for a wolf”.
And the cinderella stories with toes being cut off, and eyes being plucked out seems to be a little to much for kids thats probably why they changed this story throught out the years.
