Trickster
Saturday, December 9th, 2006Well I believe the most obvious example of a trickster at work is in the story Amusements. This occurs when Victor and Sadie find Dirty Joe passed out on the ground at the park. When they find him there first instinct is too help him and take him where they are going so he will be safe and not get arrested. However when they find that this will be impossible Victor decides to put him on the rollercoaster and make a big joke out of all of it. This is when the trickster comes out because Victor could have done the right thing and helped Dirty Joe, or even left him there. But instead he decided to entice the situation and put him on the coaster where he could be ridiculed and get in trouble. He also could have even went back for him when he seen a crowd gathering but even then he just laughed and ran when he saw the security guards coming to get Dirty Joe. There were several time where he could have been decent and done the right thing but refused for the sake of amusement and making a fool out of Dirty Joe.
