House of Spirits post 1

Sunday, October 15th, 2006

The book is very interesting thus far. At first it was very hard to pick up everything that was being portrayed, but once you get into the flow of it the reading gets easier. I think Blanca is the most important character in this novel from what I’ve read so far. She seems to have the most useful powers and well as the most powerful. I am very interested in what she will do next. Everything went bad for her so she stopped talking and when she finally did start talking again she made the bold prediction that she would get married. Sure enough Esteban came and one day asked her for her hand in marriage. Several years after that, things go bad and Blanca vows never to talk to him again. Things are getting very interesting and I can’t wait to see what is going to happen next.

lit games

I think that theses games were very unique. They were fun when you first started learning how to play but after a while they got very boring and dry. The same stuff repeated over and over until you just got mad and turned it off. So in a sense they were very frustrating at times toward the end of your session. They tell you that you can find literature anywhere and can be can be the author of your very own part in a masterpiece. I believe that it does make since to ask the questions because I feel that there is a line in literature that everyone must see and this makes that line very visible. These games invite an almost creative way to look at reading. You can read anything and just wonder if the author is someone just like you or not. I would defiantly say that there is a lot of intention behind these games. They where designed and put there for a reason and that and intention lie hand in hand. The built in activity makes it seem poorer in a sense because it looks like it’s cheap. However this is not the case, I think that the target is the younger adults and honestly it is just not something that is very interesting so it needs help and the interactivity is the answer.

Corrido

I believe that the circulation of Corrido through its many singers and versions tells you that literature is meant to entertain. There are several different versions of the same story because the version that was told is what people want to hear. So for each different area and each different type of people the version changed just a little bit. For instance if your father was a Texas Ranger you might get the thought that Corrido was a very bad person who deserved to die, however if you are a Mexican the story might lean toward to how much of a great person he was and how he was a hero in everyone’s eyes.
I can think of some literature as having that same social use. Much literature is used to entertain and to entertain you must give the reader or listener what they want. If you do not do this then people no longer care or read anymore of your work. This tells you that audiences are very picky as to what they want and are willing to read. Therefore literature must keep changing to fulfill the needs of the common reader
