I was pretty excited when I saw that we would be reading blues lyrics in class. I’m a big fan of virtually all music and always find myself looking into the lyrics of songs and finding my own meaning. That’s why I like blues lyrics. There is no single meaning in any blues song. Although the words are sometimes slang and there are a lot of metaphors that mean basically nothing to me, you can decide for yourself what the artist is trying to get across. If you follow the baseline in any blues song it automatically sets the tone and you know from the start that the artist isnt exactly happy. The cool thing to me though, is that whether you can even understand the words or not, you can apply anything in your life to that baseline.

After class on Monday I came home and was bored so I tried to read these stories again. As embarrassing as it is, I read most of it out loud and kind of with a southern accent and it was a lot easier to read. I knew the tar baby story from when I was a kid so that was easy for me to understand. I don’t think that I ever would have gotten the first story without Proffesor Sherwood reading it out loud in class.
