While I was reading “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” I kept noticing the conflicts between McMurphy and the Big Nurse. It was clearly evident throughout the book that McMurphy felt awkward and didn’t like the fact that the nurse, being a woman, had so much control over him and the other men in the ward. This theme is not only prevalent in the book, but it was also an issue in society. Many men did not like the idea of a women controlling them/advising them/ruling over them. This continues to be an issue in society today as well. We still have not had a female president, because many men, as well as some women, feel that women are inferior to men and can not handle the pressure of such a difficult job. They feel a man’s job is one with power.
